Which are the elements of Curriculum?
Doesn't matter what approach or strategy the teacher adpots. The important issue to bear in mind is that the teacher should identify and define all the curriculum components in advance. In order to develop a Curriculum we must be aware of some elements that are part of it. To make it easier here we are going to explain you what aspects you must keep on mind to develop your curriculum.
1. Statement of aims and specific objectives.
The first step is to define specific goals and objectives to reach at the end of the course.
Wilson(2004) defines AIMS as " general statements that provide direction or intent to educational action". Orstein and Hunkins concluded that AIMS serve to:
- Be general statements that provide shape and direction to the more specific actions designed to achieve future product and behavior.
- Be starting point for ideal/inspirational vision of the good future
2. Selection and organization of content.
Content is defined as “Information to be learned in school, another term for knowledge (a collection of facts, concepts, generalization, principles, theories)”.
Principle and criteria of content selection and organization
Selection of content according to aims and objectives
- Validity
- Significance
- Difficulty
- Pupil’s needs and interests
- Universality
3. Patterns of learning and teaching.
A learning pattern is conceptualized as a coherent whole of learning activities that learners usually employ, their beliefs about learning and their learning motivation, a whole that is characteristic of them in a certain period of time.
4. Program of evaluation of outcomes.
- In relation to curriculum, evaluation is the process of making value judgments about the merit or worth of a part or the whole of a curriculum.
- This stage provides a feedback to the teacher to improve the teaching methodology as well.
