Common Aproaches to Curriculum Development

COMMON APPROACHES TO CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Curriculum development is a process of improving the curriculum .Various approaches have been used in developing curricula. Commonly used approaches consist of analysis (i.e. need analysis, task analysis), desing  (i.e. objective design), selecting (i.e. choosing appropriate learning teaching methods and appropriate assessment methods) formation ( i.e. formation of the curriculum implementation committee / curriculum evaluation committee).

Analysis

Some of the reasons for doing curriculum analysis are: to make an assessment of the curriculum in order to improve it; to identify potential and actual problems as early as possible and recommend possible solutions (formative assessments); to make decisions about future support for continuation of the curriculum (summative); to see if the different parts hold together;

        Design

      Teachers design each curriculum with a specific educational purpose in mind. The ultimate goal is to improve student learning.

Selecting

In response to a transformational movement in nursing education, teachers across the country are considering changes to curricula and approaches to teaching. As part of the curriculum development process, you need the selection of concepts, competencies, and examples on which to build courses and base content.

  Formation

The curriculum development process systematically organizes what will be taught, who will be taught, and how it will be taught. Each component affects and interacts with other components. For example, what will be taught will be affected by who is being taught (for example, their developmental stage in age, maturity, and education). The methods of how content is taught are affected by who is taught, their characteristics, and the environment.
